HEBRON — Paris resident and society Director Ben Conant will address the Hebron Historical Society at its Tuesday, Nov. 26, meeting on the town’s connections to the American Civil War.

As a noted local historian he has addressed the society on several occasions on various topics and filled in for the scheduled speaker at the October meeting on the history of Oxford County and the associated Registry of Deeds.

Prior to 1805 local towns, including Hebron and Paris, were officially part of Cumberland County. Turner and Livermore were part of the new Oxford County, but came under Androscoggin County in 1854.

Those who are researching old properties through the Registry of Deeds should be aware that old deeds may have been initiated in a different county and some towns have changed names. For example, the present towns of Hebron and Oxford were originally part of Shepardsfield Plantation.

It was noted that researching records through the Registry of Deeds can now be accomplished through online computers as the records have been scanned into the system.

The Civil War presentation will follow a brief meeting at 7 p.m. at the Hebron Town Office, 351 Paris Road. The public is invited.
