RUMFORD — Rumford and Mexico firefighters responded to a wood pellet boiler fire Thursday evening near a house on Glover Road.

No one was injured, but the boiler and the shed it was in were total losses, Rumford fire Deputy Chief Richard Coulombe said.

Firefighters were initially called at about 6:40 p.m. Fire Chief Bob Chase asked for more firefighters from Rumford and Mexico, because flames and heat were threatening the Hall residence at 29 Glover Road, which is right before the Black Mountain ski area gate.

“It was melting the (house) siding pretty good,” he said. “I don’t know what he’s going to do with his pipes, because the fire got so hot that it unsoldered the pipes.”

The outdoor wood boiler, which heats water that is piped into the home, was housed in a 15- by 10-foot shed, he said.
