AUGUSTA — Police arrested an Augusta woman Thursday night in connection with a fire on North Street.
Christina Karod, 21, who resided in a third-floor room of a multi-unit building, is accused of arson, according to Department of Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.
The blaze, which Karod is accused of setting, broke out shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to McCausland. Approximately 12 units with 15 residents were occupied at the time.
Karod apparently set several books on fire in a reading area and to a curtain on an exit door on the second floor, McCausland said. All residents escaped unharmed and the building had minimal damage.
Karod was taken into custody around 11:30 p.m., and is being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $2,500 bail.
Bail conditions prohibit Karod from returning to the property.
