JAY — Police are following all leads in a home invasion on Macomber Hill Road on Nov. 16, Jay police Chief Larry White Sr. said Friday.

A woman reported three masked men broke into her mobile home at 12:22 a.m. and when they discovered she made a phone call to report it, they fled and torched her husband’s truck before driving away.

White said police questions to the “alleged victim in the case were not overly accusatory” as her attorney told the media Thursday.

“We were trying to clarify inconsistencies with her statements,” he said. “The alleged victim did cooperate with police in a few interviews.”

She then hired a lawyer, he said.

“The attorney did call and tell us that any further questions would have to go through him,” he said. “That is her right. We understand that and respect it.”

White had previously said the woman’s unwillingness to cooperate “directly” with police and state fire investigators is hindering the investigation.

She is now cooperating through her lawyer, he said.

“All we have done is state facts,” White said. “We are not trying to characterize her or anyone else. We have not made false statements. We are following up and investigating all leads that are coming into the Police Department.”

He declined to release more information because the investigation is continuing.

“My concern is to let the people of Jay know we are working diligently to clear this case. It has caused alarm and fear to the residents of Jay,” White said.
