I attended last Wednesday’s vigil for Brooke Looke. I did not know Brooke personally, but I saw the deep impact she made on my friends and on the community as a whole.

It is a tragedy when anyone so young is taken from us (especially by a willful act of violence). It is even more tragic when that young person is smart, passionate and driven to make a positive impact on the world. From all who knew her and have testified to her life, it is clear that Brooke had all of these qualities.

All of Maine — if not the world — is less for the loss of Brooke Locke.

I can only imagine the grief that Brooke’s family is struggling with. Our whole community grieves with them.
