Age: 47 but 21 in my own mind
Married/relationship/single: Married. Newly wed Sept. 1. We spent our honeymoon renovating our new office. Not even kidding a little.
What attracted you to a career in teeth? My dad was a dentist, and when I was little I always liked playing in his office. I also really admired his dental hygienist.
What’s the difference between a dental hygienist and a dentist? A dental hygienist is a licensed professional who can perform preventative procedures in the oral cavity — either independently or under the supervision of a dentist — including teeth cleanings, sealants and fluoride treatments, oral cancer evaluations, and education on how to avoid periodontal disease and cavities. A dentist is a person who is also an expert in preventative measures, but is additionally licensed to diagnose and treat diseases of the teeth and mouth, and do restorative work as well as advanced procedures such as root canals and orthodontics.
What’s the No. 1 thing people aren’t doing for their teeth that they should? Floss, floss and more floss.
What’s the No. 1 thing people should stop doing? People should stop smoking or using any tobacco products, and drinking sugary drinks.
- Lisa-Marie Sasseville is a dental hygienist with her own practice on East Avenue in Lewiston.
