Rain and wind, with gusts reaching to 60 miles an hour, caused considerable damage throughout the Lewiston and Auburn area, over the weekend and strong winds and high seas caused more extensive damage along the coast some 30 miles to the south. The Central Maine Power Co. reported general damage to power lines in the Lewiston, Auburn, Gray, Turner and Mechanic Falls areas and crews put in an extra long day Saturday restoring service. The New England Tel. & Tel. Co. reported damage was of a minor nature to the area served out of the Lewiston office. The company reported only 18 lines and 153 stations put out of commission. There was minor flooding resulting from the heavy rainfalls of Friday and Saturday. The official measurement was 2.81 inches for the two days, bringing the November total to 11.41 inches, just short of the all-time November precipitation peak of 12.13 set back in 1877.

Erase any concerns about the stamina, speed and strength of Lewiston boxer Joey Gamache to fight more than six rounds against a quality opponent. His impressive showing in a unanimous eight-round verdict over experienced Mexican battler Rafael Gandarilla before a standing-room-only turnout at Lewiston Armory last night convinced many of Joey’s future prospects. “I could have gone 10 rounds,” Gamache assured reporters in the dressing room after scoring his 13th pro victory without a loss. “I had to do a lot of boxing tonight, and I still felt good.”
