OXFORD — An Auburn man turned himself in to police Wednesday morning after leaving the scene of one-vehicle accident on the Gore Road on Tuesday night.
Oxford police Lt. Michael Ward said Matthew Gurschick, 32, was traveling north on the Gore Road at about 11 p.m. when the 2005 Chevrolet van he was driving hit black ice and crashed into a stand of trees.
When Oxford police Sgt. Ricky Jack arrived at the scene, Gurshchick had left on foot, according to Ward.
A Maine State Police dog tracked Gurschick to nearby McAllister Road in Otisfield, where the trail ran cold, Ward said. Police believe Gurschick may have been picked up by another vehicle, he reported.
Gurschick turned himself in to the Oxford Police Department on Wednesday morning and was charged with failure to report accident by quickest means and issued a court summons, Ward said. No additional charges are expected.
The van was demolished. It was towed by Russell’s Towing, Ward said.
