Forty acres of woodland, on the bank of the Little Androscoggin River, Auburn, have been leased from the Grand Trunk Railway by Fred O. York. He proposes to open the tract as an amusement and recreation park. Everything from an open air theatre to boating of all kinds will be provided for the public. The new park is to be accessible by the Grand Trunk and Maine Central railroads, and by the Portland, Gray and Lewiston Inter-Urban, now under construction. Surveyors will begin work on the land this fall, and in the spring, active work will be started toward the construction of amusement places that will make this one of the best resorts of its kind in New England.

The driver of a trailer truck intentionally jackknifed his large truck on a slippery Old Green Road hill yesterday afternoon to avoid hitting two children. The Hillcrest truck was traveling up the long hill and suddenly the vehicle started sliding backward on the slippery road surface. Two children were playing near a driveway. To avoid hitting them the driver jackknifed the vehicle with a tug at the steering wheel. The truck was carrying about 300 crates of chickens and many of the crates were tossed into the road. No birds were killed. A crew of Hillcrest workers was sent to the accident scene and gathered up the birds which were taken to the processing plant.

Maine Mariners coach Mike Milbury will be one of those lacing up the skates for the Boston Bruins Old-timers Sunday afternoon at the Central Maine Youth Center. Milbury, a stellar defenseman for the Boston Bruins, is one of several “name” players who will suit up Sunday. Among those slated to play for the L-A Oldtimers are Moe Paradis, who played for St. Dom’s between 1954-57; Roger Lachapelle, who played for Edward Little High School between 1962-66 and coached several state champion teams at Lewiston High; and Gene Veilleux who played for Lewiston High between 1966-1970 and the L-A Twins in 1971-72. Bruce Pinette will coach the L-A squad. He’ll be assisted by Ray Hilts.
