AUBURN — A day after a school bus was struck by a shot from a BB gun, police arrested a local teenager and a man they say tried to interfere with the arrest.

A 15-year-old Auburn boy was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. Police said it was the teenager who fired a shot at a school bus Thursday on Stevens Mill Road.

A 12-year-old girl riding on the bus was struck by flying glass after the BB struck the bus window, police said. The girl, a student at Fairview Elementary School, was rattled but not seriously injured, a family member said.

After the shot was fired around 3 p.m. Thursday, police began searching for suspects and interviewing several potential witnesses. Between Thursday and Friday, according to police Deputy Chief Jason Moen, investigators developed leads which ultimately led them to the 15-year-old boy.

He was not identified because he is a juvenile.

Police said they were hampered in their investigation by 26-year-old Steven Fecteau, also of Auburn, who tried to prevent police from catching up with the teen. Fecteau was charged with hindering apprehension.

The Auburn School Department notified parents of children who were riding on the bus when it was struck.
