OTISFIELD — The Board of Selectmen has agreed to revisit proposals for a new furnace for the Town Office building on Route 121.
The decision came Wednesday night after Selectman Rick Micklon said the burner is inefficient and costly, and it’s time to address replacing it.
He said he is concerned that a power outage this winter could mean frozen and broken pipes and significant damage to the building.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Hal Ferguson agreed the bids submitted in September ought to be reviewed and the issue put back on the table.
“This boiler is antiquated. We’re limping along,” Micklon said.
The board received three proposals in September:
* Charlie Bradbury of Bradbury Plumbing & Heating, $20,700 for a propane furnace and $19,900 for an oil furnace.
* J. Palmer & Sons Plumbing & Heating, $12,000 each for a propane or an oil furnace. A system that would allow changing fuels from propane to oil would cost $14,500.
* James Reid Heating, Inc., $9,500 for a propane furnace and $10,400 for an oil furnace.
Selectmen will review them again at an upcoming meeting.
