Coach: Mark Cyr (18th year)
Conference: KVAC; Class: A
Last year’s results: Boys, second in KVAC, fifth in Class A; Girls, fifth in KVAC, 11th in state.
Returning letter-winners: Boys: Juniors — Felix Bonnevie, Anthony Franchetti, Dylan Roberts, Mitch Guilluame, Mitch Haines; Sophomore — Kyle Farrington. Girls: Seniors — Mallory Parker, Katerina Bessey; Junior — Becky Close.
Key loss: Girls: Katie Lewis.
Promising newcomer: Boys: Freshman — Miles Pelletier.
Season outlook: With only three skiers this year, it’s going to be impossible for the girls to win any team titles, but the individual athletes are going to be strong contenders to win individual recognition at the conference and state level. Bessey finished fifth in the 2013 Class A slalom. Parker missed her junior season with a knee injury. The numbers situation with the boys is not as critical as the girls. Cyr noted, however, that in previous years the Cougars had such depth that they could go all out at every race, knowing that if they had a fall, there were three or four others that could step up and score well for the team. They currently lack the depth to have that “go for it” attitude.
