Several cottages at Taylor Pond are reported to have been broken into during the last few days and while so far as known few articles of value were taken, the cottages were thoroughly ransacked and it is believed that it was the work of some persons who were thirsty and thought possible they might find some liquors secreted in the cottages. Included in the list of cottages broken into are those of C.L. Prince, C.R. Wheeler and E.L. Fogg. Entrance was gained by breaking out a pane of glass and unfastening the windows.

Lewiston, too, has a hill-high reservoir. In fact, it has two, one off Montello St., and the other off Webster St. However, it isn’t likely that there could be a Lewiston repeat of the tragic flood which hit Los Angeles Saturday when the Baldwin Hills reservoir collapsed. “They couldn’t just go,” according to Lewiston Public Works Director George J. Maher, because “There isn’t any sudden change in pressure or weight of the water.” According to Maher, there are about 12 million gallons of water in the Webster St., reservoir. The reservoir is built mostly in the ground. Part of it is constructed of a brick wall reinforced by an earthwork banking holding it in place.

Officials from KTI Energy Inc. presented persuasive evidence Thursday that a waste incinerator they are proposing for Lewiston would not have the problems other KTI incinerators have had, but residents and city councilors said they have yet to be convinced. “We’re going to be very cautious about allowing Lewiston to be used as a lab in which KTI is going to improve its track record,” said Ward 2 City Councilor James Howaniec after hearing representatives of the Portland company on their proposal to build an $80 million waste-to-energy plant here. A five-hour workshop was attended by about 125 members of the public, many of whom live near the planned site in South Park for the incinerator and have been actively opposing the project since the fall.
