RUMFORD — Two Waldo Street residents were arrested Friday night and charged with stealing prescription drugs from a blind, wheelchair-using man, police said.

Detective Sgt. James Bernard of the Rumford Police Department said that Waldo Street residents Daniel Keirstad, 25, and Jennifer Malchisky, 31, were arrested and charged with Class A robbery, Class B burglary and two counts of Class C stealing drugs.

Class A crimes are punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000, while Class B crimes can result in a sentence of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $20,000 and Class C crimes can carry up to five years imprisonment and a fine of up to $5,000.

Bernard said that police responded to a 911 call of a home invasion on Prospect Avenue around 6:46 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, where the victim reported that two subjects entered his residence and stole prescription drugs from him.

The alleged victim, who police reported as being “confined to a wheelchair and blind,” added that one of the subjects held him by the face so he could not yell while the other subject rummaged through his pants, stealing two prescription medications from him.

“We were able to identify the two suspects through various witness accounts and descriptions,” Bernard said Monday afternoon. “We also learned, through interviews, that the victim and at least one of the suspects knew each other.”

Bernard said that Keirstad was arrested on Friday at a Waldo Street residence, while Malchisky was arrested at the same residence two days later.

Keirstad was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, while Malchisky was released on $3,000 unsecured bail. Keirstad and Malchisky are scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 14.
