JAY — John McKenna led Spruce Mountain with 12 points — including two from beyond the arc — and Peter Theriault added nine more to help lead the Phoenix to a 42-35 win over visiting Winthrop in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.
The Phoenix recovered from a halftime deficit with a 14-5 run through the third quarter to pull out the win and stay unbeaten at 5-0.
Taylor Morang led the way for the Ramblers with nine, including one 3. Jacob Hickey and Zack Steele each netted seven.
Brunswick 76, Lewiston 60
BRUNSWICK — Blake Gordon had a solid night, hitting for 29 points to lead Brunwsick to a 76-60 win over Lewiston in KVAC basketball action Monday.
Elliot Boyd added 17 points and 11 boards to collect the double-double for the Dragons (3-1), while Derek Devereaux chipped in with 11 points and eight assists.
Isaiah Harris led the Blue Devils (2-2) with 17 points. Carlos Gonzalez added 16, and Mohamed Mohamud chipped in 10 in the loss.
Girls’ basketball
Carrabec 50, Mountain Valley 38
NORTH ANSON — After a tight first half, Carrabec pulled away in the second to secure a 50-38 win over visiting Mountain Valley in an MVC basketball contest Monday.
Macy Welch led all scorers with 17 for the Cobras (3-1).
Sydnie Petrie was tops for the Falcons (2-1) with 14 points.
Boothbay 52, Mt. Abram 21
SALEM — Morgan Crocker led a third-quarter surge for Boothbay as the Seahawks outscored Mt. Abram, 17-1, in the period and cruised to a 52-21 win in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday.
Crocker and Sara Durgan finished with a game-high 12 points apiece for the Seahawks (2-2). Olivia Ryan led the Roadrunners (1-4) with 10 points.
Dirigo 55, Monmouth 40
MONMOUTH — Kelsey Hutchins poured in a game-high 20 points as Dirigo defeated Monmouth Academy, 55-40, in MVC girls’ basketball action on Monday.
Jess Conant chipped in with 16 for the Cougars (4-1). Sidney Wilson led a balanced Monmouth (3-2) attack with nine points.
Spruce Mountain 45, Winthrop 12
JAY — Ten of 11 players scored for Spruce Mountain as it rolled to a 45-12 win over Winthrop in an MVC girls’ basketball tilt on monday.
Nicole Hamblin and Kailee Newcomb led all scorers with eight points apiece. Newcomb had five rebounds and five steals to go with her scoring output. Emily Keene added seven points and five rebounds while Brooke Tracy chipped in with six points for the Phoenix (4-0).
Randi Dennett led the Ramblers (0-4) with seven points.
