AUBURN/FARMINGTON — This winter, Healthy Hometowns, the community development division of the Maine Winter Sports Center, will offer an adult cross-country ski program for ages 18 and up in Auburn and Farmington. The program, titled Arooskis, provides adults with an affordable and fun way to stay active during the winter months.

Sessions in Auburn start on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Auburn Nordic Ski Association trails on Perkins Ridge Road. Sessions in Farmington start on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Titcomb Mountain. Both sessions begin at 6 p.m. and run weekly from January through March.

The cost for the Arooskis program is $55 and includes coaching and instruction, access to exclusive online training resources and an Arooskis T-shirt. Trail system user fees are separate and not included. Both locations do not have lit trails and participants are asked to bring a headlamp to light the way while skiing.

“The Arooskis program is great way to get outside and beat the winter blues,” said Healthy Hometowns coach and Arooskis leader Josh Firmin. “Whether you’re looking to learn new skills, ski with new people or tweak your technique, there is a little something for everyone in Arooskis.”

The Arooskis program is open to skiers of all ability levels and covers both skating and classic technique. A typical session includes guided stretching and warm-ups, technique instruction and group skiing. Coaches will also have workouts available for skiers looking to improve their fitness and race times.
