NEWRY — Sunday River Resort will be hosting its annual Children’s Festival Week starting Jan. 13 and ending Jan. 17, resort spokesperson Darcy Morse said.
Morse said that Children’s Week has been “one of their most popular holiday events” over the years and that it has “been going on for a while.”
Among the events that will be offered in conjunction with Children’s Festival Week are the Hoopalulu Fire Gaia on Monday, Jan. 13, the Rainforest Reptile Show on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and the Family Festival Night on Thursday, Jan. 16.
Morse explained that the Fire Gaia, which starts at 6:45 p.m. at the South Ridge Base Area, is performed by Hoopalulu, a “production company out of Maine that does fire dancing and other fire-related performances.
“They’ve performed here before, and they’re definitely one of the more popular events that we have,” Morse said. “The event is free for anybody who wishes to attend. We figured this would be a great way to get families down to South Ridge.”
Another free event that the resort will be offering for Children’s Festival Week is Family Festival Night, which will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Grand Summit Hotel Ballroom.
Morse said there will be carnival games and children’s activities, including an interactive, hands-on science discovery booth from 6 to 8 p.m., presented by Mad Science of Maine.
The Sunday River Resort website describes Mad Science of Maine as a program that “provides kids with fun, interactive and educational programs that instill a clear understanding of what science is and how it affects their world.”
The Rainforest Reptile Show will begin at 7 p.m. and will cost $5 for children 12 and younger, and $8 for children 13 and older. Children 5 and younger will be able to get in for free.
