BATH (AP) — An independent investigator has determined that although mistakes were made, there was nothing illegal about the Bath City Council’s actions in selling the former Bath Memorial Hospital building for $799,000.
Retired Maine Superior Court Judge Robert Crowley, who conducted the investigation, said in his report dated Dec. 27 that the council did not conduct its due diligence in announcing the sale to the public and that “honest, human mistakes” were made in the process. But he said there was “no corruption.”
The Times Record (http://bit.ly/KiCgmN ) reported that the person who bought the property did not cooperate with the investigation.
Critics said the city failed to inform the public about the deal and the council could have sold the property for more if it had put it on the market.
