KINGFIELD — Alana Ranney of Farmington will be the featured artist for the month of January at the High Peaks Artisan Guild Gallery, formerly the Rineholt Gallery, on Main Street.
During the Kingfield Friday Artwalk on Friday, Jan. 3, Ranney will be present at the gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. She will present some new works never before on display, a black-and-white series of Maine photography scenes.
She adds drama with layers, using blending modes, adding textures, and stacking images. She does most of this work in photo editing software programs to create unique and interesting effects. Ranney enjoys hiking and camping while scouting for new scenic visits along the coast and in the mountains.
She enjoys driving back roads looking for old rusty cars, trucks, antiques and abandoned places, documenting and creating what she calls grunge art. She travels thoughout Maine visiting scenic places. Some places she returns to again and again, never growing tired of the ever-changing beauty.
Ranney is originally from Texas; her family moved her to Calais, Maine in the second grade. She grew up on the coast and relocated her photography business to Farmington, to be with her husband Mike Parker in 2009.
