WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Town Office.
President Larry Bonney said Thursday afternoon that member Beth Emerson will make a PowerPoint presentation on the life of Ezra Stephens, known as the Oxford County Barnum.
Larry Bonney said Stephens was a Bryant Pond shopkeeper in the 1800s who also owned and operated a circus. The store was renowned for the wide variety of items he carried inside.
“Beth was looking through some of the old stories surrounding our town and was intrigued that no one really knew who Ezra Stephens was,” Bonney’s wife, Elsie, said. “She decided to put together a presentation, using some of the information found in our historical society, on Ezra Stephens’ life.”
The public is welcome to attend the presentation free of charge. For more information, call the Bonneys at 875-3800.
