SALEM TWP — Mt. Abram High School has announced that this year’s Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen is Thomas Faraday, son of Michael and Madelyn Faraday of Carrabassett Valley.

The DAR Good Citizen Program is sponsored by the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and locally by the Colonial Daughters Chapter, which is located in Farmington.

Thomas exemplifies the qualities of a DAR Good Citizen, which are: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. He also has had an active high school career, which includes academic excellence while participating in seasonal sports and high school organizations as well as volunteering and participating in community activities.

Throughout his years at Mt. Abram High School, Thomas has been a member of the Student Council, the French Club, the Knowledge Master’s Open and the Mt. Abram Regional High School National Honor Society.

As a junior he attended Dirigo Boys State, where he was an active participant. He was elected quiz-bowl captain, Senator, and was appointed to the seven-person Supreme Court.

In the local communities he has played taps on Memorial Day for the Phillips and Kingfield’s American Legion. He has also played the trumpet and marched in the local Memorial Day parades and has been first trumpet in the high school band, the Regional Honors band and the American Legion Dirigo Boys State Band. In addition he was one of 16 in the state to be selected to work at Bigelow Lab on a research and inquiry based marine biology program.

In the athletic arena Thomas has been a member of the Mt. Abram High School’s track team all four years of high school. He competed in all track and field events as well as in the conference championships. As a member of the Mt. Abram High School varsity Nordic ski team, he was captain. He competed in both J2 Championships and Eastern H.S. Championships as a Maine State Team member. He received First Team Conference and Second Team Conference awards. The Morning Sentinel awarded him Skier of the Year.

During his high school years he also participated in junior varsity soccer and cross-country running.

Throughout his high school career he has received high honors and honors on the Mt. Abram High School honor roll.
