AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine state Sen. Patrick Flood says he does not plan to seek re-election this year.
The Republican from Winthrop told the Kennebec Journal (http://bit.ly/1bMAF3R ) he wants to travel with his wife and spend time with his mother.
The 62-year-old Flood is best known for his work on the state’s budget-writing committee. He’s spent eight of his 10 years in the Legislature on the committee.
Candidates are already lining up to replace Flood.
Republican Earle McCormick, a 71-year-old West Gardiner selectman, has announced a run. Democrat David Bustin, a former Hallowell mayor, says he also intends to run.
Both said they’ll run as publicly financed candidates.
The district stretches from Readfield to Pittston.
