PORTLAND — A Maine man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping a man who was trying to sell a car and stashing the victim in the car’s trunk is going to federal prison for 14 years.
U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen imposed the sentence Monday on 29-year-old Travis Landry of Surry for interstate kidnapping and displaying a gun during the kidnapping.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Alexander Filatov of Gorham was trying to sell his 2004 BMW on Craigslist when he met Landry for a test drive in May. Filatov was forced into the trunk and released hours later in Delaware.
Filatov testified Monday at the sentencing about the fear he felt during the ordeal. A handgun was found in the BMW after Landry was arrested in North Carolina after a high-speed chase.
