TOPSHAM — The Blue Devils controlled the pace in an overtime shootout, as Lewiston came out on top of Mt. Ararat 56-47 in a boys’ KVAC basketball contest on Tuesday night.

Carlos Gonzalez led the scoring attack for the Blue Devils with 17 points, while Mohamed Mohamud dropped in 10. Lewiston (7-10) saw the momentum swing in their favor during the second half and carried it into overtime to secure the victory.

For Mt. Ararat (7-10), Shyheim Ulrickson drained an impressive 20 points in the losing effort.

Lisbon 52, Monmouth 39

MONMOUTH — Tucker Brannon and Johnny Yim accounted for 29 of Lisbon’s 52 points, as the Greyhounds ran past Monmouth 52-39 in a boys’ MVC basketball match up.

Brannon led the scoring effort with 16 points, while Yim dropped in 13 for Lisbon, who improves to 11-7 on the season. The Greyhounds shot well from the field on the night, draining eight from behind the arc.

Monmouth utilized three main scorers who led a balanced scoring attack. Joe Menice, Brett Wilson and Brandon Goff all tallied 10 points for the Mustangs, who fall to 11-7 on the season.

Buckfield 59, Rangeley 32

RANGELEY — Jared Eastman dropped in an impactful 25 points, as Buckfield stepped past Rangeley 59-32 in boys’ basketball action on Tuesday.

Jonah Williams chipped in nine points for the Bucks (5-11). Freshman Kyle Charest paced the Buckfield offense with eight points.

Orrin Mitchell was able to find the net for a team high nine points for the Lakers (3-14).

Brunswick 70, Oxford Hills 55

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick’s seniors got the job done on offense, accounting for 64 points as the Dragons cruised to a 70-55 victory over Oxford Hills in boys’ basketball action on Tuesday night.

Guard Derek Devereaux drained a game-high 21 points, three of which came from beyond the arc, to lead the Dragons (12-5). Ryan Black netted 18 points, while Blake Gordon tallied 13 for Brunswick, who controlled the pace on offense throughout the game.

Luke Davidson and Andrew Fleming led the Vikings (10-7) with 16 points apiece.

Madison 48, Mt. Abram 27

SALEM — Madison dominated the second half to outscore the Roadrunners by 19 and cruised to a 48-27 victory over Mt. Abram in a boys’ basketball contest on Tuesday.

Junior guard Derek LeBlanc led the scoring effort for the Bulldogs (7-10), notching 15 points. Madison led by two at the half, but found a spark on offense to push the advantage during the remaining two quarters.

Tristen Dyer led Mt. Abram’s offensive attack with 10 points as the Roadrunners drop to 2-15.

Edward Little 66, Cony 51

AUBURN — Junior forward Lew Jensen posted 24 points and nine assists to lead Edward Little to a 66-51 victory over Cony in KVAC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Red Eddies (11-6) jumped out to a quick 23-13 first quarter lead and secured a 36-28 haftime margin. Senior forward Andrew Middleton contributed 15 points for Edward Little.

The Rams (6-12) applied some agressive pressure in the second half, narrowing the deficit to single digits on a couple of ocassions. Senior forward Ben Lucas paced Cony with 12 points.

Boothbay 71, Oak Hill 50

BOOTHBAY HARBOR — Junior center John Hepburn netted 20 points to lead Boothbay to a 71-50 victory over Oak Hill in MVC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Senior point guard Parker Asselin scored eight of his 16 points in the first quarter to give the Raiders a short-lived one-point lead.

The Seahawks (16-2) improved their defense in the second quarter to dart ahead with a 17-4 run and a 34-22 hafltime lead. Evan Hepburn contributed 18 points in the balanced attack.

Marcus Thomas tallied 12 points for the Raiders.

Poland 61, Lake Region 58

NAPLES — Junior forward Alan Young tickled the twine with 21 points as Poland held on for a 61-58 win over Lake Region in WMC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Knights (9-8) led by six most of the way through until the Lakers (8-9) cut the lead to three just before the final buzzer. Josh Gary contributed 12 points for Poland.

Senior guard Sam Smith tallied a team-leading 18 points for the Lakers, while Mark Williams collected another 17 points.

Girls’ basketball

Lake Region 58, Poland 44

NAPLES — Tiana-Jo Carter was on point Tuesday night, sinking a team-leading 20 points, as Lake Region topped Poland 58-44 in girls’ WMC basketball action.

Lake Region shot out to a 12 point halftime lead and kept the ball rolling through the final two quarters of action. Sarah Hancock paced the Lakers (16-1) with 11 points, three of which were from the three point line.

Emily Bolduc led the Knights’ offense with 24 points on three 3-pointers, while her sister Sarah Bolduc chipped in 12 for Poland (9-8).

Mt. Blue 36, Hampden 35 OT

HAMPDEN — Miranda Nicely was the only player to reach double digits as Mt. Blue utilized an extra period of play to come out on top of Hampden 36-35 in girls’ basketball action.

Nicely dropped in a game-high 11 points for the Cougars, who improve to 8-9 on the season. Adrianna Brinkman and Eryn Dorion added seven and six points, respectively.

For the Broncos (2-15), Courtney Dunton dropped in eight points, while teammate Casey Black tallied on six.

Gray-NG 45, Yarmouth 35

YARMOUTH — Gray-New Gloucester surged a ten point edge in the fourth quarter as the Patriots ran past the Clippers 45-35 in a WMC girls’ basketball match up.

Junior Maria Valente accounted for 18 points of offense, while hauling in 10 rebounds for the Patriots (10-7). Stephanie Greaton and Alicia Dumont notched seven points each on the night.

Yarmouth’s offense was led by Senior captain Grace O’Donnell who tallied ten points for the Clippers (4-13).

Rangeley 73, Buckfield 25

RANGELEY — Four players accounted for 60 of Rangeley’s poins as the Lakers routed Buckfield, 73-25, in a girls’ varsity basketball contest on Tuesday.

Seve Deery-DeRaps and Taylor Esty led the scoring with 18 points apiece for the Lakers (16-1). Blayke Morin finished with 13, while Tori Letarte chipped in 11. Rangeley led off the game with a 20-9 run over the first quarter.

Ashley Campbell netted a team-high 11 points for the Bucks, as they fall to 2-15 on the season.

Lewiston 54, Mt. Ararat 53

LEWISTON — Sophomore point guard Kristina Blais notched 20 points and connected for three 3s down the stretch to lift Lewiston to a 54-53 victory over Mt. Ararat in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Eagles (3-14) led 30-23 at the half. Senior forward Caitlin Lafontaine recorded a team-leading 18 points for Mt. Ararat.

The Blue Devils (5-12) picked up the momemtum in the second half, cuting the lead by five in the third quarter.

Laurianne Murphy netted six field goals, including five from three-point range for Lewiston.

Women’s basketball

CMCC 87, Unity 34

AUBURN — Sophomore Susie French became the fourth Mustang to break the 1,000-point barrier in Central Maine Community College’s 87-34 win over Unity on Tuesday night.

French finished with a game-high 24 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in just 20 minutes while joining Danielle McCusker, Ashley Swett and Lynn Girouard as the only 1,000-point scorers in the history of the women’s basketball program.

CMCC led 50-10 at halftime. Maggie McConkey added 20 points, six rebound and six steals for the Mustangs (20-1).

Men’s basketball

CMCC 108, Unity 80

AUBURN — Central Maine Community College dominated the first half to thump Unity, 108-80, in men’s college basketball action on Tuesday night.

Despite having a half-dozen players nursing cold and flu symptoms, the Mustangs still jumped out to a 58-35 lead and cruised to victory, their 22nd in 23 games. Xavier Colbert led five players in double figures with 20 points. Shaun Hill added 14 points and Kazre Cummings 12.
