SKOWHEGAN (AP) — A Starks woman maintains her innocence even though she has pleaded guilty to spitting on a town official during a dispute over a cellphone tower.
Cindy Brown pleaded guilty to an assault charge this week in Somerset County Superior Court, avoiding a trial.
Her lawyer told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1epmVOz ) she denies the charge, but the guilty plea allows her to clear her name because the charge will be dismissed if she meets the requirements of an eight-month probationary period.
Authorities said the 53-year-old Brown spit on Selectman Paul Frederic outside a meeting in August because she didn’t want a cellphone tower built on property next to hers.
Frederic was tested to ensure that the saliva did not carry any communicable diseases.
He said he’s “glad the issue is resolved.”
