GREENWOOD — Mt. Abram Ski Area will host a celebration at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, to recognize Richard Blanco of Bethel, who will have a ski trail named after the poem he read at President Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2013.
Marketing Director Jamie Schectman said the idea to name a trail after Blanco’s poem, “One Today,” came from owners Rob and Maureen Lally.
“It’s an honor to dedicate a trail to Richard for the positive impact and contributions he has made to our community here in the greater Bethel area,” Rob Lally said in a news release.
The trail is for intermediate skiers, Schectman said.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the top of the mountain at 3 p.m., followed by Blanco signing copies of his new book, “For All of Us, One Today,” in the ski lodge.
Afterward, a party will be held at the Loose Boots Lounge starting at 7 p.m., where DJ Deepshine will play music.
According to a Mt. Abram Ski Area news release, all those interested in viewing the ribbon-cutting ceremony should meet “at the bottom of the ‘Way Back Machine’ chairlift at 2:30 p.m. for a ride to the trail at the top of the mountain.”
