RUMFORD — The Rumford Eagles Auxiliary will host a Mardi Gras dance party at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Rumford Eagles Hall.
Doors will open at 7:45 p.m. and the band Backlash will provide music. Tickets will be $7 at the door and attendees will receive free top hats and tiaras.
“We’re also giving each person who comes in a mask that goes across their eyes,” Auxiliary member Kathy Boothby said. “There will be feathered masks available for one or two dollars for women who feel like being a little more fancy. It’s all about creating that Mardi Gras atmosphere.”
Boothby said the auxiliary have a King Cake ceremony, which is “where you hide a tiny doll inside of a cake, and whoever finds it has good luck for the rest of the year.
“There’ll be about 120 cupcakes for people to eat, and there will be tiny dolls hidden inside three of them,” she said.
“We’re going to have a couple of casino games for people to play,” Boothby said. “We have a horse race game and something that I think is called Chug-a-Lug. It’s a different type of dice game.”
All money raised will go toward local charities, including the Alzheimer’s unit of the Rumford Community Home.
“In the past, we’ve donated money to the local Special Olympics teams,” Boothby said. “We love raising money for local groups in our community.”
Boothby said last year’s Mardi Gras dance party was canceled due to inclement weather.
