LIVERMORE FALLS — Police said a Jay man was charged with theft Wednesday after taking a 30-pack of beer from Cumberland Farms on Main Street.
Alexander Ryerson, 21, led police on a foot chase and got into a scuffle with them, Livermore Falls police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
Ryerson was arrested on charges of theft and refusing to submit to arrest.
Steward said Ryerson picked up a 30-pack pack of Budweiser, looked at the clerk and said, “‘See ya,'” and walked out the door.
Livermore Falls police Lt. Joe Sage and Officer Steve Wilkinson were in the area when the incident was reported at approximately 10:20 p.m., Steward said.
They found Ryerson walking on Richardson Avenue carrying the beer. He dropped it and ran. When the officers caught up to him, Ryerson fought with them and threatened them and their families, Steward said.
Ryerson indicated an intention to hurt himself and was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston before being taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. He remained there on a probation hold for other thefts, Steward said.
He is scheduled to appear in Lewiston District Court on March 12.
