CONCORD, N.H. — First mission: accomplished.
Central Maine Community College’s basketball teams closed out their regular seasons Saturday with a trip to NHTI. They emerged victorious, and with the wins both the men’s and women’s teams completed a perfect conference season in the Yankee Conference.
The CMCC women’s team (23-2 overall, 14-0 YSCC) got things started off for the Mustangs with an 83-53 win over NHTI.
Susie French led all scorers in that game with 29 points — including five 3s — and 13 rebounds. Gabby Foy chipped in with 24 points, including four from beyond the arc. Jasmine Ramos hauled in 11 rebounds.
Allura LeBlanc led the home team with 18 points and 11 boards.
The men’s tilt was a bit closer, but the Mustangs still prevailed, earning a 100-92 decision. CMCC (27-2, 16-0) took six minutes to get untracked and led 10-7 before going on run to increase the lead to 10 points. The halftime score was 51-43, with the Lynx shooting 53 percent from the field. NHTI ended up shooting 61 percent for the game.
Throughout the game CM used its bench, rotating fresh bodies in am attempt to wear down the Lynx. NHTI was able to cut the lead to four points at the six minute mark.
With 4:34 minutes on the clock, CM was able to hang onto the ball for three consecutive minutes after key offensive rebounds by Kazre Cummings, Luis Medina, and Jalen Lincoln. The Lynx were forced to foul and put Luis Medina at the line in the last 30 seconds. He proceeded to hit four free throws to secure the victory. Cummings went off for 22 points and 12 rebounds. Shaun Hill added 20 points for the Mustangs.
The teams begin conference tourney play at SMCC in South Portland on Thursday.
