RUMFORD — In an effort to raise funds for the Dempsey Challenge team at the Rumford Hospital, Black Mountain will host a Winter Fun Day on Saturday, March 8.

Marketing director Paige Carter said this is the first year Black Mountain has hosted an independent fundraiser for any organization, and they’re “excited to be involved with something like this.”

Skiers will have the choice to buy a standard $15 ticket, or purchase a Dempsey Fun Pass for $25, with a portion of the proceeds going toward the Rumford Hospital Dempsey Challenge team.

“There are several different teams and each one is attempting to raise money for the Dempsey Challenge,” Carter said. “This is just our way to help out a good cause.”

A Dempsey Fun Pass allows the first 300 skiers who preregister unlimited Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing and tubing for the day, a commemorative pass, a mountainside snack, a bagged lunch, and a Fun Day T-shirt.

People can preregister starting at 8 a.m. March 8.

Skiers will also have the chance to do a pledge drive, for which skiers will do as many runs as they can throughout certain ski trails, and people will pledge to donate a certain amount of money for each lap completed.

“We’re going to be mapping out some trails, and skiers will mark how many times they go through the trail,” Carter said.

Other events during Winter Fun Day include a silent auction, raffles, door prizes, sleigh rides by Meadow Creek Farm in Sumner, a bonfire and a lasagna dinner.

For more information or to preregister, call Black Mountain at 364-8977.
