VIENNA — It took residents about an hour on Saturday morning to cruise through a 48-article warrant at town meeting at the Community Building, Town Clerk and Tax Collector Annie Tibbetts said.
Residents appeared to be content with the appropriation of $520,424 for town government.
“Everything passed,” Tibbetts said. “It lasted about an hour. It went pretty quick. I was pleased with the turnout.”
The only amendment came when $3,200 recommended for the Dr. Shaw Library was increased to $3,500, she said.
In municipal elections on Friday evening, incumbents won over challengers. Tibbetts retained her one-year positions, getting 143 votes for town clerk and 146 for tax collector, while challenger Connie Smith received 96 votes for town clerk and 94 votes for tax collector.
Board of Selectmen Chairwoman Doris “Dodi” Thompson received 212 votes; Selectmen Christopher Smith and Jeff Rackliff got 126 and 218 votes, respectively. Smith’s challenger, Roger Pelton, got 100 votes. All three incumbents were elected to one-year terms.
Road Commissioner Dan Goucher was re-elected to a one-year term, getting 175 votes to challenger Troy Bean’s 61 votes.
Running unopposed, Treasurer Marti Gross received 215 votes and RSU 9 Director Helen Wilkey got 222 votes.
Tibbetts said they had “a nice turnout” of 250 people at the polls.
“That’s good for Vienna,” she said.
