POLAND — Applications are now being accepted for the Bruce M. Whittier Memorial Scholarship.

Whittier, a leading citizen of Mechanic Falls and teacher at Poland Community School for many years, was killed in an accident in the fall of 1997 when he stopped to help a motorist in trouble.

Two $1,000 scholarships for further education will be awarded this year to graduating seniors from Poland Regional High School.

Applicants may apply through their high school guidance department, who will provide criteria.

Applications must be received no later than March 29.
