This is in response to the Sun Journal article March 6 about the bear-baiting referendum.

I guess what the people behind the referendum want to change is the way Maine folks have hunted bears for generations.

I guess what they want to achieve is for the bear population to increase exponentially, to the point of having a bear in every garbage can, bears lugging off every bird feeder they can reach, and for the folks doing this good deed to increase their laundry bill after a face-to-face with a bear while fetching the morning newspaper.

Have those good folks come up with a solution to keep the bear population in check that they would be willing to volunteer money and effort to?
