NORWAY — Police Chief Rob Federico said a new police cruiser to replace one wrecked in January is due to arrive this week.

“We’re anxious to have it,” Federico told selectmen Thursday.

The 2014 Ford Interceptor will replace a 2014 Dodge Charger destroyed Jan. 27 when officer James Ventresca was pursuing a speeding car and lost control on slippery Route 117 near Crockett Ridge Road. The cruiser landed on its roof, and Ventresca was injured. He has since returned to duty.

In early February, selectmen gave Federico the go-ahead to buy the Ford Interceptor from Ripley and Fletcher Co. of South Paris for $27,638.

The Dodge Charger was purchased in October from Bessey Motors for $26,885. Federico said the insurance company paid the town $24,000 for the loss.

“We still owed $17,972 on the Charger. The insurance paid that off and gave us the balance of $5,028,” Federico said. “We are using that as a down payment on the new 2014 Ford and borrowing the difference of $22,610.”
