RUMFORD — The Board of Selectmen on Thursday will discuss a bid to upgrade the fire alarm system at the Rumford Public Library.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. March 20 in Rumford Falls Auditorium.

Town Manager John Madigan said the bid met the specifications the library was looking for.

Selectmen will also entertain a request for an town meeting warrant article asking voters to raise money for a survey of a possible extension of Lincoln Avenue.

Madigan said a couple of years ago, “Someone in that area asked the selectmen to hold a straw poll to see if the town could build an extension to Lincoln Avenue. The guy who proposed it two years ago wants to keep pushing it. Before we could decide on whether to extend the road, we’d have to do a survey of the whole area to have a more complete idea of what the project would cost the town, or the materials that would be involved.”

Madigan said the cost of the survey would likely be around $25,000.

“For now, we put the issue on the agenda so the selectmen can talk about it and figure out their next step,” he said.

Selectmen will also decide whether to approve the taxi cab license for Charles Proffitt of Veteran’s Taxi, LLC.
