They live about a half-mile down the road, but because it was such a beautiful day, Bethany and her husband, Greg, and other son, Benjamin, strapped on snowshoes and hiked through the woods with Zachary on his dad’s back. There was just enough syrup to give out samples to visitors. Like most Maine syrup producers, Danville Sugarhouse has found the weather to be uncooperative, and production is down to a fraction of what it should be. They had a long list of people wanting to buy “Maine’s liquid gold.” Danville Sugarhouse plans to have another open house in a few weeks when they have had a chance to make more.
