AUGUSTA (AP) — A Monmouth man has been ordered to spend six months in jail for possession of sexually explicit materials depicting a child under 12.

Carroll Edwin Cooper Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court to serve six months of a five-year sentence and two years of probation.

The 52-year-old Cooper pleaded guilty in October to an offense authorities say was committed in April 2012.

Cooper is barred from possessing electronic devices that can access the Internet and from unsupervised contact with children under 16 under his probationary terms.
