JAY — The Spruce Mountain Middle School gym was filled with a crowd of people hoping to get called to “Come on Down!” for the Price is Right show last Saturday.

Host for the evening Jeff Parsons from the 97.9 Q-Morning Show kept people entertained all evening. Later in the evening, he was presented a special gift to thank him for his long running participation in the show. He was given an autographed picture of Bob Barker, the television host for the real show and an original script from the show, also autographed by Bob Barker.

“Thank you,” he said, “I am a fan of Bob Barker and the show. This means a lot to me.”

Emcees for the evening were eighth grade students Lilly Spencer and Will Thornton and they did a very good job, reading off the names of contestants.

The array of prizes and raffle items was incredible. Everything from an oil change at Barry’s Garage in Livermore Falls to Walt Disney World passes. There was also a table of children’s items and names were called periodically  to choose an item of the table.

Principal Scott Albert welcomed everyone and thanked the businesses who donate the prizes each year.

“This year, more than $12,000 in prizes have been donated,” he said. “Without their generosity, this show would not be possible.”

This is the third consecutive year that “The Price is Right” has been held at SMMS. Previously, the show was held for many years at Livermore Falls Middle School and is a fundraiser for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes.

Anyone who has watched the popular game show on television would be familiar with the way the game is played. Six contestants were called down for each of eight games. The contestant who guesses the closest to the price of the game prize, without going over, gets a chance to play the game on stage.
There were two showcase showdowns and one final Showcase.

Parsons did notice that there was one big difference between the television game and this one: “On TV, the contestants run down to the stage; here they take their time.” Items that were not won in each of the games and the showcases were auctioned off by Parsons.

A special thank-you was given to Guild’s Hardware of Livermore, thanking them for their generous support of the show.

Contestants wrote down their guesses and displayed them for the host, hoping to be closest to the actual price of the items during the Price is Right at Spruce Mountain Middle School on April 3rd.
