‘Dumpster diving’ fundraiser

LISBON — The Lisbon Community School PTO is sponsoring three “Dumpster Diving Days” on Saturday, March 29, Saturday, April 26, and Saturday, March 31, at the Lisbon Transfer Station.

Volunteers from the LCS Community will be at the transfer station to collect Box Tops for Education from mixed paper recyclables, along with redemption items, all to benefit programs sponsored by the PTO. Volunteers will distribute Box Top collection envelopes to help raise public awareness of the program.

In the current school year, the LCS PTO has raised $4,788 from Box Top collections, and the goal for the year is to reach $5,000.

Lisbon Community School ranks no. 1 in Maine in Box Top Collections out of 596 schools, and 402nd nationwide out of more than 91,000 participating school programs.

AUBURN — As part of the Family Place Initiative at the Auburn Public Library, a free parenting/playgroup series for parents and children ages 1-3 will begin Friday, April 4, and will run for four weeks through Friday, April 25. The sessions will be held in the Androscoggin Community Room and run from 10 to 11:15 a.m.

Play and Learn is designed to familiarize parents and their young children with library and community services. It will give parents the chance to spend time with their child while meeting other families with young children. Play, sing, create a craft and have fun. Community resource professionals will be on hand to discuss topics such as reading readiness, nutrition, dental care and behavior.

AUBURN — A fish fry will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, at VFW Post 1603, 588 Minot Ave.

Retired educators meet April 9

LEWISTON — The April meeting of Androscoggin Retired Educators’ Association will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Ramada Inn.

The cost of the meal will be $10 per person. The speaker will be MEA-R president Larry Given. The group is still collecting nonperishable food items for a local food pantry.

Republicans plan Lincoln Day Dinner

AUBURN — Androscoggin County Republicans will hold the annual Lincoln Day Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Lost Valley Ski Lodge, 200 Lost Valley Road.

The Honorable Richard Bennett, chairman of the Maine Republican Party, will be the keynote speaker.

The Honorable Lois Snowe-Mello, the Androscoggin County Lincoln Day Dinner chairman, announced the program of events and invites all Republicans to attend.

The event will include a candidates forum moderated by Bennett with Bruce Poliquin and Kevin Raye, the two Republican candidates for the 2nd District U.S. Congressional seat.

There will be an opportunity to hear from Republican candidates running in the primary in June and the general election in November. There will be live and silent auctions as well as well as a raffle.

The event is open to all Republicans in the state. Tickets are available from Republican city and town chairs. The cost is $35 per person in advance, $40 at the door. Door tickets are very limited.

American Legion bean supper set

GRAY — A bean supper will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the American Legion Hall, 15 Lewiston Road.

Menu includes chop suey, casseroles, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and desserts.

Knights plan bean, casserole supper

SABATTUS — The Knights of Columbus of the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish will sponsor a baked beans and casserole supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Our Lady of the Rosary, 131 High St.

Proceeds will benefit parish programs.

Lewiston Bridge Club winners

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on March 24 were as follows: first, Jeanine Kivus and David Lock; second, Marta Clements and Dick Allen; third, Nancy Lindgren and Rosemarie Goodwin.

The Monday quarterly club championship will be played March 31 at 9 a.m.
