SUMNER — Selectmen have accepted a bid for a three-year snowplowing contract that is $1,300 more than the last contract they signed.

At their meeting Monday, selectmen unanimously approved a $4,800 bid from David Bragg Excavation for snow removal services at the Town Office complex, helipad and the town’s fire hydrants. Bragg will bill the town $1,600 per year for plowing.

Bragg was awarded the same contract three years ago for $3,500. He was the sole bidder for the work, even though the Town Office contacted six other vendors with the bid.

Bragg also submitted a separate bid for spring salt and sand removal for $750 per year. Town Clerk Susan Runes said the town typically uses a separate bid process for the work.

During discussion about the bid, Selectman Kelly Stewart noted that Bragg appears to have fallen behind with clearing snow from the town’s fire hydrants.

The town has ended up having to clear hydrants on Valley Road and Cottage Road, while Bragg appears to only be clearing out the hydrant on Route 140, Stewart said.

“I guess we’ll have to remind him,” board Chairman Walter Litchfield said.

Selectmen still have to vote on and sign a formal contract with Bragg.
