FARMINGTON — Girl Scout Troop 54 in Kingfield will hold a “Trash Can Couture” Fashion Show at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the North Dining Hall at UMF.
All proceeds from the show will go towards toiletries, stickers, stuffed animals and socks that will go into “Blessing Bags” for the homeless and women’s shelters in Central Maine as well as the Economic Ministries in Salem.
The show is open to all girls in the area ages 5-17. The dresses for this show are made by the participants out of garbage bags and they can be decorated with other materials such as duct tape, lace and buttons. It’s about girls using their creativity to raise money and help those in need.
The registration fee is $1 per girl and anyone who would like to register can email madison@kangasinc.com. There will also be an after-party with a DJ and refreshment for all the participants. The girls will also get a picture of themselves in their dress taken by some of the sponsors who are photographers such as Happy Faces Photography and Funny-Face Photography.
For more information those interested can like the “Trash Can Couture Fashion Show” page on Facebook.
The girls have also been setting up donation boxes in schools and their cookie booth at Walmart for needed items such as deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel size body spray and mouthwash, dental floss, socks for men, women and children, stickers, small stuffed animals, gallon size zip-lock bags, Tic-Tacs, crayons, small notebooks, travel size shaving cream, gum, children’s toothbrushes with characters, band-aids and wet wipes. All these items will be put into the blessing bags. In each bag there will be an encouraging note that says “Made with love by Girl Scout Troop #54…because you matter.”
