Efficiency Maine’s solar rebate program ran out of funding at the beginning of this year. LD 1252, An Act To Improve Maine’s Economy and Energy Security with Solar and Wind Energy, would re-institute that funding, making it possible for Maine people to get a rebate of up to $2,000 to install solar panels.

Those rebates not only help make solar installations more affordable for recipients, but they also help Maine’s solar industry expand and keep creating new jobs, a win for clean energy generation in Maine and a win for Maine’s economy as well.

LD 1252 passed both the Maine House of Representatives and the Maine Senate with healthy majorities but, with a veto of this bill expected from Gov. Paul LePage, some legislators may back away from their previous positions and make the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto impossible.

It is my hope that Maine voters will communicate to their legislators strong enough support for LD 1252 to assure an override if LePage should choose to veto that bill.
