FARMINGTON — Albertine Joyce (Gould) Smith, 87, of Dryden, died early Friday evening, Mar 28, at the Sandy River Center in Farmington with her family by her side.
She was born on April 23, 1926, in Kingfield, a daughter of Raymond A. and Grace Mae (Newell) Gould, Sr. She attended New Portland schools, graduating from Central High School in 1944 and Skowhegan Business School in 1947.
On Oct. 15, 1947, she married F. Robert Smith in North New Portland at her mother’s home.
Albertine worked as the Clerk of Court in Skowhegan and, for 20 years, at Bass Shoe in Wilton. Her most important work, however, was as a loving wife and mother.
She was a former member of the Wilton United Methodist Church, past president of the Farmington Emblem Club No. 460 and a former Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary volunteer.
Albertine enjoyed keeping busy and making sure that people were “as happy as could be.”
She is survived by two sons, Michael Smith and his wife, Tracy, of Clayton, N.C., and Dean Smith and his wife, Sandra, of Carmel; a daughter, Roberta Ranger and her husband, Claris, of Dryden; seven grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Audra Hughes, Hunter Smith, Andrew Smith, Benjamin Smith, Celena Ranger and Renee Ranger; six great-grandchildren, Alison, Alayna, Gavin, Noah, McKenna and Brooklyn Rose; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Gould and Arlis Gould.
She was predeceased by her husband, F. Robert in May 1994; three brothers, Raymond A. Gould, Jr., Dwight Gould and Emerson Gould; and a sister, Althea Walker.
Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with Albertine’s family on her tribute wall at www.wilesrc.com.
