CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Two Stratton teenagers were injured early Thursday when the truck they were riding in went off Route 27 and struck a tree, police Chief Mark Lopez said.
Robert Rivers, 19, was driving north on Route 27 toward Eustis at about 1 a.m. when he lost control of the truck at Oh My Gosh Corner and it started to slide. He overcorrected and the truck slid off the road, struck a utility pole, rolled over and went airborne into a tree, Lopez said.
It took an hour to extricate him from the 1997 Toyota Tacoma, he said.
Rivers was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He has non-life-threatening injuries, Lopez said.
A passenger, Keegan Rolbiecki, 18, was treated at the scene and released by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel to his mother, he said.
Officer Rick Billian responded to the accident, which remains under investigation.
The truck was destroyed, Lopez said.
Carrabassett Valley and Kingfield fire departments responded to the scene.
