DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society is looking for photographs that document life in town from the 1940s through the 1960s, President Donna Towle said.

Three historical societies in the River Valley are hoping to host a “scanning event” for students and historical society members to add photographs, letters and artifacts to the database of the Maine Memory Network on the Maine Historical Society website.

“A couple of years ago, we had students team up with members to scan a bunch of items onto the network,” Towle said. “That ended up working really well. This year, we don’t know if we’ll be able to get students from Kurt Rowley’s history class again, since that class is taught during the first half of the year. However, we heard from a Rumford teacher who said he may be interested in teaming up with us for a scanning event.”

Towle said the Dixfield Historical Society would like to borrow any photographs that residents may have that document Dixfield life from the 1940s to the 1960s.

“I want to make sure people know that we wouldn’t need to keep the pictures if they didn’t want us to,” Towle said. “We would only need to borrow them, scan them, and then we’d give them back.”

There is no date set for scanning photos, Towle said.
