AUGUSTA (AP) — Maine lawmakers are busily pushing bills through the Legislature as they finish up the remainder of their work for the session.
The Democratic-led Legislature is scheduled to adjourn on Wednesday. But Democrats say they’re expecting to return later to override any outstanding vetoes from Republican Gov. Paul LePage.
Among the significant issues left on the Legislature’s agenda is a budget fix for the fiscal year that ends June 30, 2015.
The $30 million spending bill approved by the Appropriations Committee last week adds $5 million a year for the state’s nursing homes and $5 million a year to reduce the number of people on wait list for health care services.
Lawmakers must also decide whether to fund dozens of bills that cost the state money and await final action.
