PARIS — First Congregational Church, 17 East Main St., is planning a variety of Holy Week activities.
On April 17 they will be offer a Maundy Thursday meal and service in the vestry, downstairs in the church. At 5:30 p.m. a simple but delicious meal of fish chowder will be served. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a communion service and the scripture readings related to the story of Jesus.
On Good Friday, April 18, the church will join with other churches in the Oxford Hills Community for the annual Good Friday Walk of the Cross. That will begin at 1 p.m. at The Unitarian Universalist Church on Main Street in Norway and continue on to Main Street, South Paris, stopping at the churches along the way for a brief reflection and a chorus.
On Easter morning they will join together with 2nd Congregational Church UCC of Norway and Deering Memorial United Methodist Church of South Paris for a sunrise service. The plan is for everyone to meet in the parking lot at First Congregational Church in time to leave at 6 a.m. for Brimstone Corner on the East Oxford Road in South Paris for this outside service. At 10 a.m. they will hold their Easter worship in the church sanctuary and everyone is welcome.
According to Don Mayberry, pastor at First Congregational Church, the church is handicap accessible and friends and neighbors are invited to come and share in any and all of these gatherings.
