CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Two Kingfield men face alcohol-related charges related to a Carrabassett Valley accident Thursday that injured two Stratton teenagers, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Ken Charles charged Christopher McLaughlin, 21, with a misdemeanor count of furnishing liquor to a minor and violations of conditions of release, Nichols said.
McLaughlin was arrested on a warrant Friday on an unrelated case and was charged at the jail on the alcohol violation, he said.
Charles issued Decodah Brown, 18, a summons Monday on a misdemeanor charge of furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol, he said.
Both men are scheduled to appear June 6 in Farmington District Court.
Robert Rivers, 19, of Stratton received injuries that were not life threatening after he lost control of a truck he was driving. It went off Route 27 and hit a utility pole, rolled over, and hit a tree near Oh My Gosh corner.
Rivers had been heading toward Eustis at approximately 1 a.m when the accident occurred. It took roughly an hour to get Rivers out of the vehicle, Carrabassett Valley police Chief Mark Lopez said previously.
Rivers’ passenger, Keegan Rolbiecki, 18, of Stratton, was treated at the scene by NorthStar EMS ambulance personnel.
Carrabassett Valley police asked the Sheriff’s Department for assistance with the investigation in Kingfield when it was determined that the minors in the truck had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the accident at residences in Kingfield and New Portland, Nichols said.
Carrabassett Valley police continue to investigate the accident.
