CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Sugarloaf will host the second annual East Coast Pond Skimming Championships at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
Following a successful debut last spring, Sugarloaf will again join other resorts to offer the springtime tradition. Skiers and riders will test their buoyancy on a homemade “pond” on the Landing, just above the beach and base area. Whoever makes it across the pond with the most style will take home the crown as the East Coast’s best pond skimmer.
A panel of celebrity judges will award points based on best costume, most style and making it all the way across the pond without sinking.
Registration is free and will take place starting at 11 a.m. in the Maple Room of the Base Lodge. It is on a first-come, first-served basis. Each skier will have one attempt to make it across the pond.
Pond skimming starts at 1 p.m. sharp and winners will be announced after all skimmers have finished their runs.
