LEWISTON — A Bates College student was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly bursting into the wrong home, knocking over and injuring an elderly man as he did so.

Mac Jackson, a biology major and football captain, was arrested at about 10:30 p.m. He remained at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on Wednesday, charged with aggravated assault and aggravated criminal mischief.

The victim, a man said to be in his 80s, was being treated for a possible broken hip at a Lewiston hospital.

Police said the incident began at about 10 p.m. Tuesday when an intoxicated Jackson began pounding on the door of a house on White Street.

The man who lives there, police said, told Jackson that he had the wrong house. He then closed the door but opened it again when Jackson continued to pound on the door, police said.

When the elderly occupant tried once more to explain that his unwanted visitor was at the wrong address, police said, Jackson burst in, knocking the man to the floor.

Officers arrived a short time later. While an ambulance came for the injured man, Jackson was arrested and taken to the county jail.

Jackson, set to graduate in 2015, is from Hood River, Ore., according to his Bates College profile. He’s the captain of the school football team. In 2012, he was named All-New England First Team Specialist by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Jackson, being held on $2,500 cash bail Wednesday night, was expected to make an initial court appearance later this week.
